Clean minimalist home11/19/2023 ![]() I want less to do, I want less to look at, and I want to relax in peace.Īrguing with my family is not going to help me attain that peace, even at the cost of having a super tidy home. I want a peaceful home which is why I even started minimalism. If you know me at all, you know I just want peace. I think that if communication and grace increase, then the clutter can be minimized and house satisfaction can increase. They never think, “oh, I’ll leave this here so mom has to pick it up! Hahahahaha”īasically, it can be a number of things, but it usually isn’t malice. Now they leave their stuff everywhere! At least in my house. It could even be the teen whose brain is not firing on all cylinders because it is being rewired in the ultimate brain growth period of puberty. It could be kids leaving a cup in a non-eating area because he was distracted and didn’t think to put it in the proper place. It can be a tired spouse at the end of the day who leaves work clothing in the main living area, or keys, sunglasses, etc. The reasons for the procrastination are many. Things are dropped in their various locations because of procrastination. Our brain processing goes down, creativity goes down, poor eating can go up, and our overall health can suffer. I’ve linked studies before and I’ll dig some up again soon, but the research is pretty conclusive that there is a high correlation with stress and a cluttered environment. When there is clutter lying around, I can’t help but feel like there is always work to be done. I would hope that the family would notice this and naturally want to help. The house is no exception, we all live here, yet I seem to do most of the cleaning. Man or woman, if you’re the one who does the bulk of the cleaning, it can feel kind of personal when the family is not helping or seems downright oppositional. Of course it bothers you! It bothers me! We ask, we plead, yet the compliance is minimal. Here’s how I deal with the clutter bugs dropping things around my house! Now, I don’t claim to be an expert, but I’ve been married for nearly sixteen years and have been a mother for nearly fifteen! I know a thing or two about marriage, mothering, clutter and maintaining a home. This can lead to us angrily walking around and picking things up, throwing them on a family member’s floor, maybe even muttering things under our breath. We may have even requested said belongings be picked up, yet here they lay. In fact, they are those of our cohabitants. We’ve all had the frustrating experience of walking around and seeing that most of the belongings laying around are not ours. I have beeeeen there! Far too many times.
